Fred Smith Company is currently searching for an experienced Project Manager/Estimator for our Kitty Hawk location.
We are a self-perform heavy civil contractor working in North Carolina.
Pay will be commensurate with experience; all employees are eligible after 90 days for benefits such as health, dental and vision insurance and paid time off.
The successful candidate will have 3 to 5 years of heavy civil experience bidding, building & managing commercial and public work.
This position is not an entry level role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Estimating self-performed projects which typically range from $500,000 to $5 million including pricing labor, equipment, and material costs.
Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.
Ability to produce detailed, accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and be able to appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.
Identify constructability issues through the estimating process.
Identify and propose value-engineering alternatives.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively and work cohesively within a team environment.
Working experience on HCSS software a plus.
Plan and formulate construction projects according to project requirements and engineering standards
Create and maintain all project-related documentation and correspondence.
Collaborate with field management to ensure successful resolution of issues between the project plan and site execution on an ongoing basis
Maintain timely knowledge of what is occurring on project
Appropriately execute authority over issue resolution related to project plan and implementation
Communicate clear roles and responsibilities to entire project team
Conduct weekly meetings with project team (to include scheduling and costing review)
Develop and effectively manage against project budget and ensure project meets projected/required margins
Conduct and document ongoing financial projections of project performance throughout project life
Submit accurate and timely cost and income projections for project
Submit accurate and timely payment requisitions
Appropriately act on changes in project margins and budget variances to ensure project profitability
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of contract terms and specifications
Act as Fred Smith Company’s representative with owners and owner's engineers at project meetings
Ensure timely and appropriate communications of time extensions and delays to owner in accordance with contract requirement
Document, prepare, and initiate claims, if necessary
Identify competent subcontractors and suppliers for projects by comparing and evaluating them based on price, scope, schedule, terms, qualifications and history with Fred Smith Company
Oversee the issuance of subcontracts and supplier purchase orders
Ensure all site operations adhere to Company and site safety policies and protocols
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (4 years) - Preferred
Three to Five years prior experience in an Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Estimator, Superintendent or higher field role with relevant project experience
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, HCSS Heavy Bid, HCSS Heavy Job
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Strong leadership & management skills
Ability to adapt and work effectively with diverse workforce
Valid drivers license with positive driving history
