JOB OVERVIEW: The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Washington Montessori Public Charter School according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Trustees.
KEY LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT QUALITIES: Provide visionary, collaborative, and innovative educational leadership.
Demonstrate successful teaching and administration experience, with a pattern of increasing responsibility in education and administration.
Demonstrate leadership and success in challenging and engaging students at all points along the educational performance continuum.
Demonstrate strong decision-making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to make difficult decisions without being divisive.
Demonstrate strong financial intelligence and a long-term vision for fiscal stewardship; allocate resources according to school and Board of Trustees goals and objectives.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: LEADERSHIP: Collaborate with Heads of School and the Board of Trustees in developing a vision and strategic plan for the school.
Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Trustees of internal and external issues that affect the school.
In collaboration with Heads of School and the School Leadership Team, serve as a professional advisor to the Board of Trustees on all aspects of the schools operations and activities.
Foster effective teamwork with school staff and the Board of Trustees.
In addition to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, act as a spokesperson for the school.
Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board or jointly with the Board as required.
Represent the school at community activities to enhance the schools community profile.
OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: Develop operational plans which incorporate goals and objectives that align with the strategic direction of the school.
Ensure the operation of the school meets the expectations of all stakeholders, internal and external, sponsors, funders, and the Board of Trustees.
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school.
In collaboration with Heads of School and the School Leadership Team, draft policies for Board approval and prepare procedures to implement organizational policies; routinely review existing policies and recommend changes to the Board.
Ensure personnel, student, and volunteer files are securely stored and compliance with privacy and confidentiality is maintained.
Provide support to the Board in the preparation of meeting agenda and supporting materials.
INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the schools curricula, programs and services.
Ensure the curricula, programs and services offered by the school are properly aligned with the schools mission, the strategic plan, and the priorities of the Board.
Monitor the delivery of instruction, programs, and services to maintain and enhance quality.
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special projects.
HUMAN RESOURCES PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: Determine staffing requirements for all components of the schools organization.
Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures, and practices, inclusive of developing and maintaining accurate job descriptions.
Establish and maintain a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
In collaboration with the Heads of School and Leadership Team, recruit, interview and hire staff.
Ensure all newly hired staff receive a structured orientation and onboarding to the school as well as requisite training.
Implement a performance management plan for all staff which includes performance monitoring on an ongoing basis and conducting annual performance reviews.
Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance.
Discipline staff when necessary in accordance with school policies and procedures; terminate employment of staff in accordance with school policies and procedures.
FINANCIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: In collaboration with the Heads of School, the School Leadership Team, and the Board, prepare the schools comprehensive budget.
Ensure the school is adequately funded to support the operation of the school.
Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to strengthen the fiscal resources of the school.
Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate.
Approve financial expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and within the authority delegated by the Board.
Ensure thorough bookkeeping and accounting processes and procedures are maintained and followed.
Administer school funds in accordance with the approved budget and the schools monthly cashflow.
Provide the Board with regular, comprehensive budget reporting on the schools revenues and expenditures.
Ensure the school complies with all regulatory requirements covering financial management, accounting, and taxation.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS/ADVOCACY: Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the school and identify changes in the school community.
Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups and organizations, funders, politicians, and local officials to help achieve the schools goals.
RISK MANAGEMENT: Identify and evaluate risks to the school staff, property, finances, goodwill and image and develop and implement measures to control risks.
