” This position is located at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm in Columbia, NC-an adult male minimum custody facility.
The HVAC Mechanic I will be responsible for providing journey level work in the areas of heating/air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and food service equipment.
May be required to assist in other maintenance areas as needed.
The HVAC Mechanic I perform special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel.
The HVAC Mechanic I will perform preventive maintenance functions as outlined in the preventive maintenance plans while at the same time instructing inmates in performing less technical repairs.
The HVAC Mechanic I must possess working knowledge of refrigeration theory, working knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control systems, working knowledge of the design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors and of boiler/chiller systems.
Working knowledge of the practices, methods, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, ability to diagnosis equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform procedures, skills in the use of tools and equipment utilized in the repair of air-conditioning systems.

These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position.
Therefore, you must demonstrate through documented experience or provide supporting information within the body of your application to demonstrate your possession of ALL KSAs listed.
Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
